At Adrian Waye Psychology, we provide a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Eye Movement Desensetisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Treatment is tailored to suit a client's presentation, and referrals are accepted for the following presentations:

We provide the following evidence-based assessment options:
Psychoeducational assessment:
Maybe your child's teacher has recommended to you to have your child undertake a psychoeducational assessment due to difficulties with learning. A psychoeducational assessment wil help identify a client's areas of strength and weakness in learning, plus identify any specific learning disorders, such as Specific Learning Disorder in Reading, Specific Learning Disorder in Written Expression, or Specific Learning Disorder in Mathematics. Additionally, a psychoeducational assessment can also be used to identify intellectual and academic giftedness.
A psychoeducational assessment typically include face-to-face assessment of a client's
intellectual ability, and academic ability. Other assessment areas, such as phonological processing, adaptive behaviours, or social and emotional behaviours may be included if applicable.
Cognitive assessment:
Cognitive assessments, also known as an intelligence assessment, is used to determine an individual’s general thinking, functioning, and reasoning abilities. Cognitve assessments help individuals gain a deeper understanding of their intellectual abilities, thinking skills, and daily functioning. A cognitive assessment can also be used to identify the potential presence of an Intellectual Developmental Disorder (Intellectual Disability) or learning disability.
Adaptive Behavioural Assessment:
Adaptive Behavioural assessments are used to evaluate an individual's everyday practical and social skills needed for daily living, such as communication, self-care, and community use, across the lifespan. Additionally, adaptive bahavioural assessments can be used to support the diagnosis of neurodevelopmental and other psychological disorders, and inform recommendations for strategies, supports and services that may be helpful for the child and those who support them.
Autism Spectrum Disorder:
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder involving persistent challenges with social communication, restricted interests and repetitive behavior. While autism is considered a lifelong condition, the need for services and supports because of these challenges varies among individuals with autism.
Early signs of this condition can be noticed by parents/caregivers while a child is still young. However, the need for services and supports typically become more consistently visible by the time a child is 2 or 3 years old. In some cases, the problems related to autism may be mild and not apparent until the child starts school, after which their deficits may be pronounced when amongst their peers.
An autism spectrum disorder assessment involves a comprehensive assessment of a clients background information, behaviours, cognitive functioning, and social interaction skills. An autism spectrum disorder assessment typically involves at least two x 2-3 hour face-to-face sessions.
Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder:
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder marked by persistent symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Some people may have symptoms of inattention. Others, symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity. Some people may have both types of symptoms.
Symptoms typically begin iduring the deevelopmental stage (childhood) and can interfere with daily life, such as social relationships, and school or work performance.
An ADHD assessment involves a comprehensive assessment of a clients background information, behaviours, cognitive functioning, and fucntional impact. An ADHD assessment typically involves at least two x 2-3 hour face-to-face sessions.
Assessment Options
Referrals
Referrals are accepted from GP's, NDIS support coordinators or plan managers, or Workcover or insurers. Client's can also self-refer. Medicare rebates may be available for clients referred by their GP, and private health rebates may be available, depending on a clients level of cover. No referral is required for clients with private health.
